GALÁPAGOS: EVOLUTION'S SHOWROOM, AND THE ANIMALS DON'T CARE THAT YOU'RE THERE
HOME / DESTINATION / VOYAGES & EXPEDITIONS / GALAPAGOS
The Galápagos are the rare place where the wildlife has no fear of humans. Marine iguanas sunbathe next to your towel. Sea lions body-surf the same waves you're snorkelling. Blue-footed boobies perform mating dances while you stand three metres away. The experience is unlike any wildlife encounter on earth — and the planning decisions that get you there well are specific enough to matter.
The Central & Southern Islands
5-7 days
Santa Cruz is the logistics hub: the Charles Darwin Research Station, highland tortoise reserves, and the best base for liveaboard departures. Española is the island for waved albatross (March–December) and the most concentrated wildlife viewing in the archipelago. San Cristóbal has the oldest human settlement and a sea lion colony at the main beach. Isabela — the largest island — adds Galápagos penguins, flightless cormorants, and a volcano walk that puts the islands' geology in perspective.
Best for:
First-time Galápagos visitors, families, wildlife enthusiasts, snorkellers
Planner’s edge:
We match island itinerary to the species you most want to see — the eastern and western circuits deliver different wildlife, and the timing within the year matters for specific encounters

Liveaboard vs. Land-Based
5-10 days
The decision shapes the entire experience. Liveaboards cover more islands with less transit time — you wake up at a new anchorage each morning, and the distance between sites is covered overnight. Land-based stays on Santa Cruz or San Cristóbal offer more comfort, more flexibility, and lower cost, with day trips to the outer islands. Both work; they deliver different trips. Liveaboards suit those who want maximum wildlife coverage and don't mind a small cabin. Land-based suits families with younger children and those who prefer a fixed base.
Best for:
Anyone choosing between the two formats — the decision is the planning
Planner’s edge:
We match format to travel style and budget honestly — the best liveaboard experience is not always the most expensive one, and the best land-based itinerary requires knowing which day trips are worth the boat ride
The Western Islands
Fernandina & the Far Circuit (7–10)
Fernandina is the youngest and most volcanically active island — flightless cormorant colonies, marine iguana aggregations, and a lava landscape that feels genuinely primordial. The western circuit requires a longer liveaboard itinerary and covers sites that day-trip boats from Santa Cruz can't reach. This is the Galápagos for those who have done the central islands and want the full picture — or for those arriving for the first time who want to do it once, properly.
Best for:
Dedicated wildlife travellers, photographers, and those with the time and appetite for the full archipelago
Planner’s edge:
We know which operators cut corners and which ones don't — in the Galápagos, the difference between a good expedition guide and a mediocre one determines the entire trip
